Early Thursday afternoon an 18-wheeler crashed into an overpass along westbound Interstate 40 in North Little Rock.

The rig caught fire, sending flames spewing from the truck and thick, black smoke billowing into the air.

The smoke could be seen for miles and traffic soon backed up for miles.

The driver was pulled from the burning truck and taken by medical helicopter to the hospital. He died less than two hours later.

When the fire was finally out, just the frame of the truck remained. The wreckage was loaded onto a flatbed trailer and removed from the scene late Thursday afternoon.
