Smackover School Superintendent Announces Resignation

Changes are coming to the Smackover School District in Union County.

Superintendent Don Smeltzer announced Monday night that he would retire effective June 28th.

Smeltzer has been with the Smackover School District in various roles since 1966.

He says he's looking forward to spending more time with his family.

Also, School Board President Tommy Norrell resigned effective immediately.

The school board has 30 days to appoint an interim board member from Norrell's district.

Joe Bates, the Board's Vice President, will serve as Board President.
