Mayor's Truck Vandalized After Heated Council Meeting

The Morrilton mayor's truck was spray painted with a saying, he says, that's too scary to be a simple prank.

It's all stemming from a change in leadership at the police department, but some say someone has taken a disagreement way too far.

Morrilton Mayor Stewart Nelson is pretty fond of his new F-150.

But rolling around town, his pick-up now has a new design he didn't ask for.

The words "It Ain't Over" are spray painted across the right side.

The very same words were recently uttered aloud by Alderman Robert Gunderman as he left a heated city council meeting last week.

"I have nothing to do with it, I didn't even know what was on the truck until I saw the picture," said Alderman Gunderman.

Gunderman admits he was very opposed to the mayor's pick for police chief.

Sonny Stover, currently Chief Deputy at the Conway County Sheriff's Office, Gunderman says, has less experience than others already at the Morrilton Police Department.

But Gunderman says even so, he would never have encouraged this act of vandalism.

"When someone comes in there and vandalizes, they're gutless they are cowards not to come forward," said Alderman Gunderman.

Mayor Nelson says it's sad someone would stoop this low, but more he worries about the phrase's deeper meaning.

"My biggest concern is, if it ain't over, what's coming next," said Mayor Nelson.

Both he and Gunderman agree it, in fact, should be over.

"I want people to forget it, let's go on and live our life, we've made a change, let's see what happens," Mayor Nelson said.

State Police are now investigating the vandalism and a few other problems the mayor says he couldn't elaborate on.

The chief post was vacant because the former chief was elected county collector and took office January first.

Oh I see Gunderman, when it's being done to one of the city planners or one of Morrilton's own well then their spineless. gutless cowards, but doing to the little guy and the low income welllllll that's just business as usual isn't it.

Robert Gunderman, whoever did it, should have done a hell of lot more than that and I applaud them, and the only reason Nelson made back in office is he ran unopposed. When you people in the law enforcement here in Morrilton stop taking payoffs and dealing drugs, and allowing your officers to beat up people in handcuffs and listening in on peoples cordless and cellular phone conversations through illegal modified scanners, warrant less wire taps and other illegal equipment, and sweeping trash & crimes under the rug for the inner circles children and parents, and protecting all of the residents regardless of income level instead of just those who put favors in your pockets well just maybe people will start cooperating with you.
