The anniversary was observed not with celebration, but with remorse at the State Capitol in Little Rock.
A ceremony in the second floor rotunda area marked the 11th Annual Abortion Recovery event, which focuses on women hurt by abortion.
The ceremony featured the stories of women who have experienced the private pain of abortion and have had the courage to face the deep shame and grief by becoming involved in the pro-life movement.
Organizers say these women who regretted their "choice" are speaking out because they want America to know that abortion hurts women, men and families, that there is hope for healing, and that abortion recovery is beneficial for our nation.
The landmark Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton Supreme Court decisions of 1973 changed the way America handled the abortion issue, giving abortion rights activists an epic victory.
The video attached to this story shows a grieving ceremony as women leave roses in a bassinet for the children they gave up to abortion.
