Former U.S. Representative Asa Hutchinson announced Friday his intentions to run for Governor of Arkansas in 2014.

"For the last nine months, I've had encouragement from the new generation of leadership in Arkansas that they'd like to see me run for Governor," said Hutchinson Friday.

But the Republican's immediate focus is inishing his work for the National Rifle Assocation on a new school safety inititve.

"They called out of the blue after the tragedy in Connecticut and wanted to do something on school safety."

Hutchinson says he's heard thousands of ideas about how to make schools safer, and there are two main challenges ahead of him.

"Everybody understands we need greater security in our schools," explains Hutchinson.  "But who's going to pay for it?  And how are we going to accomplish that?

"Secondly it's more than just armed guards that are trained for our schools, its also about how you are designing the school.  What is the architecture of it?  Is the school being built with safety in mind?

Hutchinson says he hopes to have recommendations for the NRA within the next two to three months.

Hutchinson ran unsuccessfully for Governor in 2006 losing to Mike Beebe.  Attorney General Dustin Mcdaniel is the only announced democratic cadidate for Governor.
