Many of us have new weight loss goals this year. Now, a new study reveals one particular thing we may want to avoid in order to be successful.

This new study shows we may want to avoid fructose if we're trying to eat a healthy diet.

Fructose, a sugar used to sweeten many foods and drinks, appears to trigger changes in the brain that can lead to overeating.

Researchers found when people drank a fructose beverage, their brains didn't register the feeling of being full, like it did when they consumed drinks with simple glucose.

Scientists say these results don't prove that fructose causes obesity, but note that the percentage of overweight Americans has skyrocketed with the increase consumption of the sweetener.

You can find fructose in processed foods and sugary sodas.

So before you pick up the newest diet cook, you may want to try a different kind of reading: food labels.
