A refuge for battered women and those with addiction, getting thousands of dollars for renovations.

Delta Regional Authority gave the Dorcas House in Little Rock $200k.

Renovations will include the construction of two electronic security gates, for more protection and the installation of energy efficient windows and air conditioning units.

Much needed repairs, that couldn't have come at a better time.

"You have no idea, because it's such a huge drain on our finances every year, but it's also a huge inconvenience, because in the hottest part of the summer, of course air conditioners break down, said Director of Women's Ministries, Dorcas VanGilst."

The Dorcas House helps women prepare for the workforce by increasing their skills.

They also train them to better care for their families.
