Julie Hathcote, a kindergarten teacher at Chenal Elementary in the Pulaski County Special School District, taught the ABC's of Arkansas football Wednesday.
"Boys and girls, I am sure that you have all heard that the Arkansas Razorbacks have a new coach," Hathcote said, "Today we are going to sound out his name."
Yes, being able to correctly pronounce Bret Bielema's name is required reading for Razorback Nation. So how does it go
Principal Felecia Hamilton was on the
case. She wrote "BIELEMA" on a sheet of paper and put students and teachers to the test.
Responses varied, from "Bee-lima" and "Bell-ema," to "Bill-emna" Bileema and "bulimic."
Hathcote sounded it out with students, writing "Bee la ma" on the overhead projector.
"What is this first word?" Hathcote asked?
"Bee!" was the rapid response from students.
After adding "la" and "ma," the kids had it.
"Let's say it three times," Hathcote said, and kids joined in, shouting, "Bielema! Bielema! Bielema!
Class dismissed.
