Powerball sales are shooting through the roof.

While it will mean hundreds of millions to a winner, it will also mean millions in Arkansas scholarship money.

Arkansas Lottery officials expect to see around $2.5 million in Powerball ticket sales on Wednesday, half of which the state gets to keep.

All but 9 percent of that goes directly to the scholarship lottery.

That means this big jackpot will generate more than a million dollars in scholarships based on Wednesday's sales.

Combine that with the rest of the week and you have a big total.

"This particular jackpot we believe, will conservatively add $2.5 million additional dollars for scholarships alone," said Julie Baldridge, with the Arkansas Lottery Scholarship.

While this is certainly some great news, the odds of winning are only one in 175 million.

Those odds may be against you, but Arkansans have won more than $34 million in Powerball prizes.

An anonymous winner landed a $25 million jackpot in January 2010, and the state's also had five $1 million winners.
