"Week of Giving" Holiday Donation Drive Underway on KARK 4

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: December 9, 2012
KARK 4 News is teaming up with the Arkansas Foodbank and the University of Phoenix for a holiday donation drive to feed hungry families.

The "Week of Giving" is now underway and runs through Friday. Click here to donate.

Donations will be sought in telethons during each of KARK's daily newscasts, beginning at 5AM all the way through the 10PM newscast. A phone bank staffed by volunteers will accept the cash donations.

Arkansans are urged to give whatever they can because every dollar counts.

"In years past, the Arkansas Foodbank has told us the best way we can all help feed hungry families not only during the holidays but year-round, is by donating money to the cause. This enables the food bank to take the money raised and buy large amounts of food it then distributes to families throughout the state," explained KARK 4 General Manager Mike Vaughn.

The University of Phoenix, already a sponsor of KARK's 4 the Greater Good program, continues in that role for the holiday donation drive.

"As we've covered stories across the state this year, our news team has seen the effects of the economic downturn on families who need help putting food on the table. At the same time, the Arkansas Foodbank tells us it's seeing more families in need of help than ever before. Our Week of Giving is one way to help more people in the community by helping the Arkansas Foodbank," said KARK 4 News Director Austin Kellerman.

To make a donation during the "Week of Giving", watch KARK 4 News for the phone number that will be displayed at the bottom of the screen during the newscasts, or click here to donate online.
