Arkansas Solider Dies in Afghanistan

Arkansas's senior U.S. senator is sending his condolences to the family of an Arkansan killed last week in Afghanistan.

U.S. Senator Mark Pryor made the following statement on the death of U.S. Army Specialist Joseph A. Richardson, 23, of Booneville.

"I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Specialist Joseph A. Richardson. Those who knew him best will remember him for his loving heart, giving spirit, and dedication to his country. Today I join all Arkansans in lifting up Specialist Richardson's family during this difficult time."

An Arkansas soldier has died in combat in Afghanistan.

On Sunday, the Department of Defense (DOD) announced the death of Spc. Joseph A. Richardson, 23, of Booneville (Logan County). He died alongside Sgt. Channing B. Hicks, 24, of Greer, South Carolina.

The DOD says Richardson and Hicks died on Friday (November 16) in Paktika Province due to injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. 

The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Richardson was posthumously promoted to Sergeant.
