It appears that the Conway Hewlett-Packard (HP) plant will be affected afterall by major job cuts for the company that were announced Wednesday.

When asked today about whether or not the cuts would impact the plant, HP's corporate spokesperson Michael Thacker told KARK 4 News, "The reduction in workforce will affect every business and region."

Response from Jamie Gates with the Conway Chamber of Commerce:
"Conway has had a good experience with HP. We hope for the best and feel good about our future together."

Original story (11:00 a.m. Wednesday):
With tech giant Hewlett-Packard set to announce major job cuts today, an official in Conway is talking about what it could mean for the HP plant there.

Jamie Gates, with the Conway Chamber of Commerce tells KARK 4 that the Chamber doesn't think the local HP plant will be impacted by the cuts.

According to CNN Money, Hewlett-Packard will announce another round of substantial job cuts this afternoon in an effort to streamline its teetering PC and services businesses, a source familiar with the plans told Fortune.

The layoffs will be "in the ballpark" of 25,000 workers, the source said, which would amount to about 7-percent of HP's global workforce. The nation's largest technology company by revenue currently employs 349,600 people worldwide, according to its latest regulatory filing.

We'll have more on the story as further details are released.

Comments

Once again, KARK doesn't get the story right. The HP facility in Conway is a technical support call center and it also houses an enterprise sales team. There is nothing manufactured there. Therefore, it's a facility and not a plant.
