Police made their presence known at Crawford Elementary School, in Russellville.

This after a teacher, whose name is not being released, was grazed in the arm while in the parking lot after school late yesterday afternoon.

All the students had gone home for the day says Principal Mark Gotcher.

He was still at the school, but didn't hear the shots, someone came rushing in to tell him what happened.

"I got up and ran out to where the incident occured."

It all happened just feet away from the parking lot on North K Street and Parker Road.

"I was concerned for her safety obviously. Thankful the students were already off campus."

Gotcher says the teacher was given the day off to rest, but came in this morning to shut down rumors.

"She was there just to show the children she was safe and she went on home after that."

And a day later - safety is paramount.

"We made a decision as a District to enter into a semi lock down. Which means we will run our day as normal as possible, with the exception of students being outside."

Neighbors that live right next to the school and across the street from where the shooting happened, said they let their children play outside all the time and now are stunned by all of this.

Jill Jenkins, lives next door to the school.

"I freaked out. I was just floored. Was not expecting it.  I came home from work about six everything was blocked off.

Her daughter, Cassidee can't do her usual routine.

"I play, ride my bike, house."

Sarah Westbrook, lives across the street from the school.

"There's a lot of good people in this community and to even imagine somebody would just randomly shoot at someone, especially on school property, that just terrifies me."
