Iowa Caucus Set for January 3rd

Updated: October 18, 2011
The date is set for Iowa's caucus.

Iowa Republican leaders have voted to lock in January 3rd for its caucus.

The vote does not stop the committee from getting back together and changing the date.

Iowa and New Hampshire have traditionally led off the state to state process of picking a presidential nominee, whether it be a caucus or primary election.

The election calendar was thrown into chaos in late September when Florida Republicans bypassed the Republican National Committee's rules and picked January 31st for its primary.

The move at that time leapfrogged Florida ahead of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.
