Healthy Living: Acupunture and Allergy Sufferers

By: KARK 4 News

People who suffer from seasonal allergies may be able to find relief someplace other than the medicine aisle: a new study published finds acupuncture may be an effective allergy treatment.

Researchers had more than 400 allergy sufferers undergo either acupuncture with access to allergy medication, a sham acupuncture procedure with access to medication, or medication only.

They found those treated with acupuncture reported fewer symptoms and used less medicine.

The study found after 16 weeks, the difference in treatment response waned.

The researchers are not sure whether patient expectations about acupuncture made them believe they experienced a benefit.

They are planning more studies.
