In the midst of intense discussion about women's rights at the state capitol, a college group is hosting auditions next week for a play focusing on women and their experiences.

University of Arkansas-Little Rock's alliance group is planning a performance of "The Vagina Monologues," which highlights various aspects of the female experience ranging from childbirth to rape.

"I would say this is really good timing," says Zack Baker with UALR Alliance. "It's definitely a hot topic right now, and I think it needs to be discussed and needs to be brought into the light."

With a number of debates going on at the state capitol involving women, the group says it's only coincidence, but the legislative session does open the door to talking about women's issues.

Auditions will be held in Student Center room 201R on the UALR campus for the following dates:
  • Monday (February 18) from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Tuesday (February 19) from 4-6 p.m.
  • Wednesday (February 20) from 6-8 p.m.
Auditions are open to members of the community who self-identify as female, not just UALR students.

Production dates will be March 7, 8 and 9 at 6 p.m. at UALR's theater.

Comments

It's a great experience for those in the production and those attending. Very emotional.
