Update: Eastern Arkansas Weather Radio Transmitters Working Again after Brief Outage

Updated: January 29, 2013
Update (9:50 a.m.):
Weather transmitters at the National Weather Service office in Memphis are operational again after an outage earlier this morning.

At 9:45, the office released the following public information statement:

...NOAA WEATHER RADIO BROADCASTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE...

NOAA WEATHER RADIO FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MEMPHIS IS
CURRENTLY UP AND RUNNING.  FULL SERVICE IS EXPECTED.

Original story (8:30 a.m.):
With severe weather in the forecast for the Mid-South, a weather radio transmitter problem discovered this morning at the Memphis office of the National Weather Service is cause for concern.

Arkansas stations that are currently offline are located in Marvell and Jonesboro and serve the counties in Eastern Arkansas (see map below).

The weather radios are not working because a part that transmits the signal is broken.

John Robinson with the NWS office in Little Rock says they will reprogram their transmitter in North Little Rock to catch some of the Eastern Arkansas counties, but they cannot do all of them.

The part to fix the problem has been ordered but may not arrive until after today.

Severe weather is expected Tuesday afternoon and night across much of Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, and western Tennessee.
