Little Rock Cop Fired--Again

A Little Rock officer is out of a job---again.

Wednesday, a judge reversed a commission's opinion to re-hire a cop after he was caught on camera saying a racial slur.

The hearing lasted just about three hours before the judge said he thought Officer David Edgmon should not be patrolling the streets.

You may remember, back in May 2010, Officer Edgmon caught on camera using a racial slur after getting upset in the River Market because he felt someone was blowing marijuana smoke in his face.

The chief of police fired the officer in August of that year.

The department said it shed bad light on the force and showed bad judgment.

But the civil service commission gave Officer Edgmon his job back, saying instead, he should receive a 30 day suspension.

The City of Little Rock appealed here to Circuit Court.

Robert Newcomb Officer Edgmon's attorney argued in court today that another officer, who is black, wasn't fired for a similar racial slur.

He says the judge's decision Wednesday helps enforce a double standard.

"I think there are going to be some white officers who aren't happy with it, and I think it's just an overreach by the city," Newcomb said.

The city, though, argued the circumstances between the two cases are different.

The judge ruled that officer Edgmon can keep his job until the appeals process is over.

Edgmon's attorney says they plan to keep fighting.

@Mistah L. - u obviously dont know much about this ordeal. If u had readmore about this you would've found that a black officer actually did say a racial slur to a person while on duty...I believe the newspaper said he called him a "porch monkey", or is that not one. That apparently was after the white officers incident and the black officer received no suspension. Now you explain that to me how that is okay and doesn't shout out double standard! Just because a person says a racial slur once doesn't make that person a [censored]. Also how can you judge a persons character on a 30 second clip of their entire life when you know absolutely nothing about them besides a night when someone drank too much and made a stupid comment. Yeah he shouldn't have been drunk in public but who hasn't done something stupid in their life...they act like the guy killed someone. And it seems to me that they need to look into the standards because apparently some people can get away with saying racial things while they persecute others for it! And I agree with Lloyd b. That a bpoa shouldn't be allowed! That's [censored] within itself

yeah mistah but its ok for an organization to exist called the little rock black police officers association and only let black officers in but if there was an organizartion called the little rock white police officers association you would be throwing a hissy fit saying that it is a [censored] organization so who the [censored] just like noble and the naacp and the black congressional congress these are ok to have but it if they were only for white individuals then everyone would be upset and say they shouldnt exist

yea but let it be a black man calling a white man a racial slur they would have fired him, gave him a fine, then threw him and jail. there should be no mercy for that ...makes me sick racism still lives on in arkansas and I dont care who sees this
