His statement came after the Des Moines Register newspaper reported Thursday Santorum wound up with a 34 vote advantage over Romney, though the paper said results from several precincts were missing and there are "too many holes" in the certified totals to know the victor for certain.
Romney was thought to have won the January 3 caucuses by eight votes, the closest-ever margin of victory in a Republican presidential contest. But results from eight precincts are missing, the Register reported Thursday, citing officials from the state Republican Party, and will never be recovered and certified.
Officials discovered inaccuracies in 131 precincts, although not all the changes affected the two leaders, the Register said.
The certified numbers showed 29,829 votes for Santorum and 29, 805 votes for Romney, according to the newspaper.
