The Blarney Stone
The Blarney StoneThe Blarney Stone is located at Blarney Castle.
It was one of Ireland’s greatest chieftains, Cormac MacCarthy, who built Blarney Castle nearly six hundred years ago and Blarney Castle has been attracting attention ever since. Over the last few hundred years, millions have flocked to Blarney, making it a world landmark and one of Ireland’s greatest treasures. Beyond the beautiful gardens surrounding the majestic and
historical castle lies something a bit more mystical and alluring which has made this castle famous for centuries.
Now that might have something to do with the Blarney Stone, the legendary Stone of Eloquence, found at the top of the Tower. Kiss it and you’ll never again be lost for words. But don’t take our word for it – everyone from Sir Walter Scott to a host of American presidents, world leaders, and international entertainers has been eager to take advantage.
Echoing the power of the stone, an Irish bard of the early nineteenth century, Francis Sylvester Mahony, wrote:
There is a stone there,
That whoever kisses,
Oh, he never misses
To grow eloquent.
'Tis he may clamber
To a lady's chamber,
Or become a member
Of Parliament.
