"Let me just say this first, 'Howl, yes!' is how new Arkansas State University (ASU) Head Football Coach Bryan Harsin opened his comments in Jonesboro during an afternoon news conference announcing his hiring.

The University of Texas Offensive Coordinator comes to ASU after a two-year run in Austin. Before that, he coached at his alma mater, Boise State University.

Harsin told a crowd packed into the Convocation Center that it is a "tremendous honor" to get the job. He said he's been preparing "a long time" for the first head coaching job of his career.

Harsin got emotional during a long list of thank you's when he mentioned how much his wife's support means to him. He said his entire family, which includes three children, "are all in" for his new gig.

The new leader of the Red Wolves talked about "hitting the ground running," and how "we want to be a part of this community" that makes "all this work," before turning the talk to strategy on the football field.

He outlined his defensive and offensive goals before saying "we want a high flying, high powered scoring option, and we wanna have fun."

Harsin ended his comments with "I am excited, I am fired up, and I am looking forward to getting to work as your head coach, 'Howl, yes!'."

Harsin replaces Gus Malzahn, who left ASU last week to return to Auburn.

Interim coach John Thompson is leading the Red Wolves as they prepare for the GoDaddy.com bowl on January 6th in Mobile, Alabama.
