A national study released Monday shows governments are spending a little less money on prison systems, but Arkansas isn't exactly in line.

While nationally, prison spending took a 6% dip from 2009 to 2010, Arkansas decreased spending by 0.3% in that time frame.

This year, the Arkansas Department of Correction increased spending by 3%, from about $60  per day, per inmate to nearly $62.

The prison system, though, says its numbers are relatively flat overall and just takes into account inflation and growth.
