CARTI's Festival of Trees is rolling out several holiday events this weekend, starting Thursday night with the Sugar Plum Ball.

Festival of Trees began in the CARTI lobby in the late 1970s with a few trees, a few people and a few dollars raised.

But now there are there are a number of events including the Festival of Fashion, Festival After Dark, Breakfast with Santa, Tux-N-Trees and the Sugar Plum Ball.

CARTI is a nonprofit cancer care network treating Arkansas cancer patients and their families.

One tree at the festival is called "Morgan's Lights of Love," named after 8-year-old Morgan Anderson, who lost her battle with cancer last year.

Her grandmother was a CARTI patient right after it opened, and watched Morgan get the same care she had received.

"Person who did her treatment was caring. Petted her, loved her, cared for her; just that kind of place to be," Morgan's grandmother Mary says. "I thank God for them being there, being supportive of all cancer patients. Without them we would be kind of lost."

It's fundraisers like this that keep CARTI in a position to offer that kind of care and cutting edge technology in cancer treatment.

Since it is a nonprofit organization, CARTI treats patients regardless of their ability to pay.
