Dozens of people in North Little Rock showed up to a rally aiming to pressure city council members to shoot down a proposal to turn Emerald Park/Big Rock Quarry area into a high-end condo and apartment complex.

They're against North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hay's plan to sell about 45 acres of prime riverfront property to a developer for one point two million dollars.

They say the land is worth much more in terms of dollars and quality of life.

"I think somebody sees a good deal on a piece of property on the river and they want to develop it and they're trying to jump in before somebody else gets to it, " says Andy Hight, a North Little Rock resident who attended the rally.

However Mayor Hays says the deal is good for the city, saying "in terms of investing in the future of a community you've got to have heads in beds - that is a big part of a revival of a town and we're on our way. "

The city council is slated to vote on the deal Monday, August 27th.

Activists say between now and then, they're going to make their voices heard.
