The sheriff's department told KARK a person calling himself "Mr. Anderson" called the victim and claimed to have a large cash and car prize through the Publishers Clearing House.
The victim sent $16,000 in cash to several address and then destroyed the evidence of where the money was sent, just as the caller had instructed.
Pope County Officials said it's unlikely they'll be able to re-claim the victim's money.
"A lot of these scams come from other states, or countries so we are working on it," said Sheriff Aaron Duvall. "Just the name or Mr. Anderson we'd like to get that out there. If anyone gets a call, whether they use that name or not, they need to contact their local law enforcement just to be on the safe side. "
And this could have been worse. The victim tried to take out $25,000, but the bank wouldn't allow such a large withdrawl.
