Lowell Mayor Eldon Long has made his choice for the city's new Police Chief.

Mayor Long says Captain Randy Harvey will be appointed the new Police Chief if his recommendation is approved by the City Council Tuesday.

Long says he doesn't expect council members to reject his recommendation.

Captain Harvey would replace former Chief Joe Landers who died after he was involved in a motorcycle accident in late April while on vacation in Panama City, Florida.

Captain Harvey is a 14-year veteran of the Lowell Police Department and served as interim Chief in Landers' absence.
