Study: Secondhand Smoke Effects Last Into Adulthood

A new study reveals children exposed to secondhand smoke face health problems that may last into adulthood.

Previous research has shown a link between living with parents who smoke and respiratory illnesses in childhood. However, University of Arizona researchers found these health problems often persist into adulthood, even if these people never become smokers themselves.

Although parental smoking did have an effect on asthma and wheezing in adulthood, there was a stronger association with chronic cough.
