A new drug is showing promising results in treating advanced cases of melanoma that have spread to the brain.

In a phase one clinical trial, the drug Dabrafenib reduced the size of Melanoma-related brain tumors in nine out of ten patients. Four patients had their tumors resolve completely.

The drug works by blocking the activity of the mutated gene responsible for about half of the Melanomas as well as other common cancers.

Researchers say further clinical trials will begin soon.
