Two of the three Democratic candidates running for House District 4 were in De Queen tonight for a political forum.

Q. Byrum Hurst and state Senator Gene Jeffress attended. D.C. Morrison was unable to attend.

For both political parties the stakes are high--If the GOP wins, it will mark the first time since the Civil War that the Republicans will dominate the Arkansas Congressional delegation. Democrats want to retain that seat and pick up more seats in the U.S. House.

Looking at the money raised thus far, it's an uphill battle for the Democrats. Two of the GOP contenders have outraised the Democrats by substantial margins.

According to Opensecrets.org, Thomas Cotton has raised more than $893,000 and Beth Anne Rankin has raised more than $368,000 compared to Hurst and Jeffress who have raised $102,000 and $25,900 respectively. D.C. Morrison has raised $19,000. Republicans Marcus Richmond has raised $59,709 and John Cowart has raised $32,804.

U.S. Representative Mike Ross, a Democrat, decided to retire. In the last election cycle, Ross raised just over $450,000. Ross was first elected to the House in 2000.

The primary election in May 22.
