FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas tennis team returns to action Sunday to take on former Southwest Conference rival Texas. The Razorbacks and Longhorns are set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center in Fayetteville. Sundays match is the third of seven consecutive home matches for the Razorbacks. The Razorbacks (6-0) moved up 13 spots in the FILA Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings to No. 45. The Hogs are off to their best start since 2002, when UA began the year 7-0. Last time out, the Razorbacks cruised past Missouri St., 7-0. Arkansas won its fifth doubles point in as many tries this season. UA and UT met in Austin last February with No. 23 Texas defeating No. 36 Arkansas, 5-2. The schools have split the previous 24 meetings with the Razorbacks winning the last match in Fayetteville, 4-3, in 2004. "This match is huge for both program," Razorback Coach Robert Cox said. Arkansas is led by its veteran trio at the top. Senior Adrians Zguns (90 career wins) can move into sixth-place alone on the Arkansas career wins list with a victory today. No. 24 Matt Roberts has won 39 of his last 51 matches and No. 100 Rohan Gajjar has been ranked in every poll the last two seasons. Freshman Blake Strode is ranked No. 19 after posting three top-50 wins in the fall. Sophomore Michael Jung leads the Hogs with 18 wins this year and classmate Colin Mascall has yet to drop a match since transferring to Arkansas at semester. Texas (1-0) is ranked 20th in the latest polls. The Longhorns recorded a win in their season opener, Jan. 28, at Minnesota. Senior Roger Gubser is ranked 38th while sophomore Travis Helgeson is 44th. "I believe Texas deserves a much higher ranking," Cox said, "You really cant put too much stock in these rankings as it is early in the season. The Dills Indoor Tennis Center is located across from Bud Walton Arena on Razorback Road. Admission is free and there will be free pizza and beverages for fans.
