FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.(UA Sports Information) - Arkansas assistant basketball coach Bill Herrion is leaving the Razorback staff to become the head coach at the University of New Hampshire. Following is a statement from head coach Stan Heath: "We congratulate Bill and his family on this new opportunity. Although it was a difficult decision, Bill had to go with his heart and we wish him well. "We have already begun the process of looking for a new assistant coach. We hope to have a new coach in place before the next recruiting period in mid-July." Following is a statement from Herrion: "I want to thank Stan Heath, Coach (Frank) Broyles and the University of Arkansas for giving me an opportunity to be a part of their staff for the last month and a half. In a very short time, I had an enjoyable experience. I have tremendous respect for Stan Heath as a person and coach, and I am very appreciative of the opportunity he gave me when I didnt have a job. "The head coaching situation at the University of New Hampshire just opened up about two weeks ago and for me was a very unique opportunity. I wanted to be a Division I head coach again, but I didnt think I would get that opportunity this quickly. There were several other factors involved. I was the head coach at Drexel for eight years. Drexel is in the same league as New Hampshire, so theres a lot of familiarity there with both New Hampshire and the league. It is also an opportunity to get back to the New England area where Ive done a lot of my coaching, where I played and where my family lives. "Again, I am very appreciative of the opportunity Arkansas presented me. In the month and a half I was there, there is no question in my mind that Stans team is ready to take the next step and get to the NCAA Tournament. The hard part for me personally is that Im not going to be a part of that, but I wish them the best of luck."
