A Jefferson County man is behind bars on murder charges after a fight ended with his wife's death.

About 2:40 Saturday afternoon, authorities say George Cage, 31, made a 911 call from his home on Huntley Trail Road, southwest of Pine Bluff.

Initially, Cage called and said he shot his wife, Mendi Catherine Bell, 37. He also reportedly had her two teenage children outside the home and would not allow police to come in.

Officers arrived on scene and Cage was taken into custody without incident.

Bell, suffering from several stab wounds, died on the way to the hospital.

Cage told investigators he lashed out at her during a fight and stabbed her.

He is being charged with capital murder with no bond.

Originally from Mississippi, Cage had moved here to Arkansas within the last year and married Bell, authorities said.
