The delays in getting power restored  has people throwing out spoiled foods in their freezers and refrigerators.

The Department of Human Services says those who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, otherwise known as food stamps,  could be eligible for reimbursement for food lost in the winter weather.

Beneficiaries need to contact their SNAP caseworker  at the county office within ten days of the outage.

The caseworker will determine the reimbursement based on when the last benefits were issued and how much were used.
