While smoking and obesity are known risk factors for an early death, experts now say inactivity is also deadly.  In fact, they say say more than five million deaths worldwide are due to a sedentary lifestyle.

The research was published in a special issue of the journal, "The Lancet."

Experts analyzed data from several studies, and found about one in every ten deaths around the world is due to inactivity.  They say people who don't exercise are more likely to develop cancer, type two diabetes and heart disease.

However, they say hundreds of thousands of lives could be saved every year by getting up and moving.  Even walking at a moderate pace could help.

This new study a great reminder of what a difference a little walk can make.
