LULAC Raises Money for Legal Battle Against LRSD

A fight over the Little Rock School District's newest voting map could head to court.

Members of the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC) say they're pursing legal action against the district for choosing a voting map they claim divides the Latino community and diminishes it's voice and influence in the district.

New census numbers forced the board to draw new district lines. LRSD Board President Jody Carreiro told KARK he believes the board's decision was within the law.

Terry Trevino-Richard of LULAC said, "When we ask for a small issue, which is do not dilute the Latino voters in these particular zones in Southwest Little Rock and they do it anyway, what kind of trust is supposed to be built? What are we supposed to do?"

Richard says LULAC is working to raise money for their legal defense and researching their options.
