A new study links U.S. veterans exposed to improvised explosive devices to the same dementia-like brain disease found in NFL players.

The research suggests there is a common thread that binds those exposed to traumatic brain injury, whether it happens on the football field or war zone.

Researchers from Boston University compared the brain tissue of four veterans to that of pro-athletes with a history of concussion. They also exposed a group of mice to blast winds, and found they also showed evidence of the brain disease.
