Noise Alert for Camp Robinson Today and Saturday

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: May 18, 2012
People who live near or travel around Camp Robinson in north Pulaski County are being warned about noise in the area today and tomorrow.

The Arkansas Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 206th Field Artillery Regiment of the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team will fire one volley from each of three M119A2 105mm towed howitzers in support of a formal change of command ceremony.

Col. John "Mickey" Stewart assumes command Saturday afternoon from outgoing commander Col. Kirk Van Pelt.

The artillery battalion will also conduct two live rehearsals in preparation for the actual ceremony.

A test fire of the weapon systems will be conducted at about two o'clock this afternoon, and again after nine o'clock Saturday morning.

There will be a third firing during the actual ceremony after one o'clock Saturday afternoon.

The ceremony and rehearsals take place near the Camp Robinson Maneuver Training Center's flag display on the South side of the post nearest to North Little Rock and Sherwood.

The Guard advises the public that the sound of the artillery fire will carry outside Camp Robinson's
perimeter and may potentially cause concern in the surrounding area.
