Raise in Salary, Benefits Offered to Little Rock Teachers

Updated: May 3, 2012
The Little Rock School District is offering teachers a 1-percent pay raise and an increase in contributions to their health insurance in a new contract proposal.

The offer comes three weeks after the two sides had declared an impasse in negotiations.

The union of the Little Rock Education Association (LREA) votes today on the new contract.

LREA Vice-President Teresa Gordon released details of the district's offer this morning, stating the following:
"The agreement is for 1% to be added to the salary schedule and to increase the health insurance contribution by $16.92 per month. Both of those would be retroactive to the beginning of the contract year and will be available in your June check. Steps were already paid beginning in August. We are the only district in Pulaski County that will be receiving either a raise or an increase in health insurance contributions."

The LREA had been asking for an 8-percent raise.

The school district votes on the contract proposal Friday.
