Arkansas Town Loses Police Department

A south Arkansas police department is shutting down, and protection will now be the responsibility of the county sheriff's office.
The Portland Police Department closed over budget concerns and the retirement of the current police chief.

The closure is effective immediately. 

Portland mayor Gary Morgancites budget reasons as the primary reason.

Officers say the Ashley County Sheriff's Department  is now responsible for patrolling the town.
