FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas senior Luis Bordes has been named to the 2006 Southeastern Conference Good Works team it was announced by the league office. The senior distance runner was recognized for his extensive efforts in the community in a variety of roles. Bordes earned two valuable points for the Razorbacks with a seventh-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at the 2006 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The senior helped Arkansas win its 79th conference title at its first at the new John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville. "If you have a son you would like him to be like Luis," Arkansas head track and field coach John McDonnell said. "He has diabetes and has to give him three shots of day. Then you see him finish and earn his points at the conference meet. That is unbelievable. Im proud of him on and off the track." An active member of the Arkansas Athletes Outreach, Bordes has served his community through the Arkansas Athletes Outreach. A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Bordes has volunteered his time with the AAO Champions of Character Program and the Conference of Champions, where he served as a volunteer for weekend retreats. He also volunteered his time for the Camp of Champs and was a committee member on the AAO Social Committee. Bordes takes part in the annual Razorbacks for Christmas event, in which athletes take underprivileged children to a local amusement center and give them a Christmas present. Bordes has also been a speaker at anti-drug and abstinence engagements at several local high schools. In addition, he has participated in team track clinics and organized a clothes and cell phone drive for Golden Key. He is a four-time Lon Farrell Academic Honor Roll recipient and Hard Working Hog Award winner as well as a three-time member of the All-SEC Academic Honor Roll.
