Diamondhogs Travel To Missouri State Tuesday

The No. 12 Arkansas baseball team travels to Missouri State on Tuesday, April 11, for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Bears at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo. The Hogs are 25-8 on the season and 6-6 in SEC play after winning the Vanderbilt series this past weekend. Missouri State (18-10) has won eight of its last nine games, including a 10-5 win over the Razorbacks in Fayetteville last Tuesday. MSU leads the Missouri Valley Conference with a 5-1 record. The Hogs will start right-handed pitcher Shaun Seibert, who is 2-0 on the season with a 1.80 ERA in 25 innings of work. It will be the third start of the season for Seibert after earning wins in his two other starts against Louisiana Tech and Texas-Arlington. Right-hander Jake Shafer will take the hill for Missouri State. He is 2-1 on the season after beating UA last week. He has a 5.47 ERA in 24.2 innings and has struck out 20 and walked 14. Arkansas is coming off two straight wins over No. 16 Vanderbilt in Nashville last weekend. The Hogs captured the Saturday game, 5-3, with the help of Nick Schmidt on the mound and a ninth-inning home run by Brian Walker. Danny Hamblins fifth-inning grand slam carried UA to victory on Sunday as Trey Holloway and Chris Rhoads combined to subdue the Commodores bats in a 4-3 win. The Razorbacks lead the all-time series 41-19 dating back to the 1966 season. The Hogs hold a 3-2 edge in the series since Dave Van Horn return to his alma mater in 2003 and are 12-10 against the Bears in Springfield. Arkansas is hitting .288 as a team and scoring 6.7 runs per contest while the pitching staff boasts a 3.28 ERA with opponents hitting just .238. The Bears enter the series scoring 5.7 runs per game with a .269 batting average. The MSU pitching staff has a 3.51 team ERA with opponents batting .233. The Missouri State staff strikes out 8.6 batters per game while issuing 3.3 walks. The Razorback Baseball Radio Network will carry the game with Rick Schaeffer calling the action.
