Diamondhogs Notch 15-7 Win Over Stephen F. Austin

EDINBURG, Texas. - Arkansas posted a season highs in runs and hits in a 15-7 win over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon at the Al Ogletree Classic at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The win improved the 17th-ranked Razorbacks record 5-0 on the season headed into the tournament finale on Sunday against host Texas-Pan American at 2 p.m. The Arkansas bats came alive with a season-high 15 runs on 19 hits. For Hogs collected three hits in the game with freshmen James Ewing, Wayne Hrozek and Matt Willard leading the way. Both Ewing and Willard made their first career starts on Saturday. Ewing went 3 for 3 and reach base in all six plate appearances. He also scored three runs and drove in a run. Hrozek raised his average to .333 with a 3-for-6 day at the plate. Willard went 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Senior right fielder Chris Hollensworth also picked up three hits and scored three runs while make two impressive plays in right field. Arkansas also rediscovered its running game against the Lumberjacks with a season-high seven stolen bases. The Hog catchers also continued to do an excellent job of throwing out bases runners. Blake Parker caught his first game of the season on Saturday and threw out four base runners. The Hogs defense struggled on Saturday with a season-high six errors that led to five unearned runs. Arkansas starting pitcher Charley Boyce took the brunt of the errors, allowing three unearned runs. Boyce didnt have his good stuff either with three walks and five runs allowed in the shortest start of his career. "We had a lot of freshmen in the lineup," Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn said. "We made some throwing errors. We made a couple of base running mistakes and made a mistake on a pickoff. Just about every play we were involved in where mistakes were made were freshmen or new guys. But it`s good to get those guys that experience. But there were a lot of good things that happened too. Those freshmen also got a lot of hits." Trey Holloway earned the win in relief of Boyce to improve to 1-0 on the season. Holloway worked three innings, holding Stephen F. Austin with a hit or a run. Lee Land relieved Holloway in the fifth and pitched three more scoreless, hitless innings. Shaun Seibert came on to pitch the final two innings. Notes · Arkansas starting pitcher Charley Boyce became the all-time school leader in starts with 47. · The Hogs collected season highs in hits (19), runs (15), stolen bases (7) and errors (6). · It was the first time since April 16, 2005 (at Tennessee) that Arkansas has committed six errors in a game. The school record is seven. · Matt Willard (3B) and James Ewing (2B) made their first career starts on Saturday.
