RAZORBACKS' POSTSEASON RUN COMES TO AN END IN THIRD ROUND AT NCAA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UA Sports Information) - Arkansas battled a steady drizzle, a challenging course and the top teams in the nation but came up a little short of making the final round cut in the third round of the NCAA Golf Championships at the Caves Valley Golf Course in Baltimore, Md. on Friday. The Razorbacks carded a third round team score of 310 (+30) landing them in a tie for 29th. Only the top 15 teams after three rounds advance to the final round of competition on Saturday. Fellow Southeastern Conference squad Georgia is atop the leader board heading into the final round at 15-over par. "We obviously had a goal of making the cut as a top-15 team, but I am pleased with the way our young team fought this week," Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. "I am proud of what we accomplished in the spring semester. We grew a lot in the last few weeks and this experience will be invaluable for what lies ahead in the years to follow." Arkansas hovered around the cut line late into the round on Friday, but the closing stretch proved to be troublesome for the Hogs for the second straight day. The Razorbacks posted a score of eight-over par on the final five holes on Friday after shooting 11-over-par in a similar stretch in round two. A pair of sophomores paced the Razorbacks in Fridays third-round action. Beau Glover capped a quality tournament with a 77 (+7). His tournament score of eight-over par tied for 29th and left him just one shot shy of a playoff to continue the tournament as an individual. Matt Bortis fired the best round of the day (73) for Arkansas and finished the day tied for 62nd on the individual leader board at +12. Freshman Scotty Campbell and junior Josh Farrell both tallied rounds of 80 (+10) while freshman Eric Shriver shot a third-round 81 (+11). Campbell, Farrell and Shriver finished the tournament at 20-over, 25-over and 23-over par, respectively. While Fridays missed cut officially marked the end of Arkansas season, Ketcham is already looking forward to next year on the links. The Razorbacks should have some momentum after staging a remarkable final round comeback in the NCAA Central Regional to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships. Arkansas even flirted with making the cut at this weeks tournament despite boasting one of the most inexperienced squads in the field. The Hogs championship lineup featured two freshmen, two sophomores and a junior. "This last month was a great team experience for us," Ketcham said. "All of our guys have major plans this summer and will work hard to improve their games. I think now they know what it takes to compete with the best teams in the nation. I cant wait to get started on next year. Im excited about the future of Razorback golf.
