Tornado Safety Tips:

Have a tornado plan posted at your home, your work, or your school.

While inside a building�

Go downstairs or to the lowest floor of the structure, such as the basement or first floor.

Get under something such as pillows, blankets or a mattress.

Get to the center part of the floor you are on, and place as many walls between you and the outside of the building as possible.

Get into a bathroom or closet.

Always keep away from windows.

If in a mobile home�

GET OUT. You are safer outdoors than inside.

Go to a sturdy shelter that is within running distance.

Go to a community center if you have time.

In a vehicle�

Move at right angles to the tornado if it is visible and far enough away.

Park immediately outside traffic lanes.

Get into a ditch or low area, and lie flat and face down with your hands protecting your head.

Be sure to get away from vehicles as they may blow or roll over on you.
