The words boot camp instantly instill fear in lots of folks, especially when thoughts of drill sergeants screaming in your face come to mind, and right now some incoming high school seniors are engaged in a boot camp of their own at Little Rock Christian Academy.
"We call it boot camp, because it is that," said college counselor Carla Bollinger. "We don't give them any particular breaks. Lunches are done here. They are working lunches."
The 3 day boot camp kicked off at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, getting a crew of aspiring journalists, doctors, scientists and more out of bed and onto pursuing the next step to their future success. The students are writing essays, putting together resumes, and learning how to interview.
It's a test-run effort started by college guidance counselor Carla Bollinger at Little Rock Christian Academy, after she realized seniors were overwhelmed with the college admissions process.
"Some of them were so busy, they were emailing me back and forth about their essays and applications at 2 and 3 in the morning," said Bollinger.
"I was like oh my goodness -- I'm going to die, and i don't want to do it, and then I thought about it and it's going to help me immensely," said incoming senior Alexa Ross.
The boot camp wraps up Thursday morning, with a college essay recital for the college trainees to read their essays to their parents.
For those students who missed out on this week, There is one more boot camp July 27th-29th.
