LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Felony hit-and-run charges have been dropped against a man who was accused of running over a woman in January, and another man is in custody for the same crime.

According to Little Rock Police, 33-year-old Steven Kissinger (pictured, below) will not be charged after further investigation determined that he was not responsible for hitting the woman at Kavanaugh and Beechwood.

Police say Kissinger was arrested for the crime after running a partial license plate and matching the witness description of the vehicle to his. A witness also identified Kissinger as the driver of the vehicle that ran over the woman.

According to police, upon further investigation, it was determined that although his pickup was similar in color and style to the suspect vehicle, it was not involved in the hit and run. Investigators also determined that although Mr. Kissinger resembled the suspect, he was not the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian, police say.

Additional investigation developed 42-year-old Claude Smith (pictured, above) as the driver of the vehicle that struck the victim.

Smith turned himself in to authorities at 10:00 Monday morning, and was charged with felony hit-and-run, careless and prohibited driving, failure to yield to pedestrian in a crosswalk, driving on a suspended license, expired vehicle registration and no insurance.
