Immigrants Learn About Immigration Reform in Springdale

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: February 17, 2013

Immigrants from across northwest Arkansas are gathering in Springdale to hear the latest on possible reform happening at both the state and national level.

The director of Arkansas United Community Coalition says there is a lot going on right now, both in little rock and the nation. The average immigrant here can't keep up with the latest news on reforms, either because the information isn't presented in Spanish or because they don't know how to find it.

The nonprofit brought in a panel of community activists and attorneys to dispel some myths and let people know that although no new laws have been passed legislators are considering comprehensive changes.

Activists say simply deporting people would hurt the economy and increase taxes, so they hope lawmakers will work together to find a solution that recognizes the important role of immigrants across the nation.
