Former Arkansas State Senator Steve Bryles Dies

Former Arkansas State Senator Steve Bryles died Friday morning. The 55-year-old Bryles had been battling esophageal cancer, according to the Blytheville Courier News.

The Blythville businessman was first elected to the State Senate in 2001 and served until 2011. In 2011, Governor Mike Beebe made his the director of the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission.

"Steve Bryles was a good friend with a gentle heart who never wanted to stop helping people," said Gov. Beebe. "His work was always deliberate, his dedication to public service unwavering, and regardless of the stakes, he always kept a level head. In all the years I knew Steve, I don't ever remember seeing him lose his temper."

According to the Blythville Courier News, Bryles was involved in the cotton industry for more than 27 years, and was integral in establishing the Great River Economic Development Foundation.
