Little Rock's Fire Department marked the opening of its first new station in two decades.

The department held its grand opening for Station 23 Monday morning on Rahling Road in West Little Rock.

Little Rock's fire chief says the location will help keep people in that area of town safer.

"This area of the city is...we've got some fire protection, but we need more, so the addition of this fire station helps us to improve upon our response times in this area," said LRFD Chief Gregory Summers.

The Little Rock Fire Department has owned the property on Rahling Road since 1998, but funding concerns kept it from being able to build until recently.
