Rose Parade Donate Life Float Floragraph Unveiled in Little Rock

The legacy of an El Dorado man who gave the gift of organ donation upon his death was honored in Little Rock this afternoon.
Liz Fox unveiled her late husband's floragraph image (that will be part of a float in the Rose Parade) in a ceremony at the offices of the Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency.
David Lee Fox was a man of integrity and honor. He was a loving, giving, gentle soul who believed that something good existed in everyone. David and his wife Liz were both community-oriented, and loved working with children. A chemical engineer, David earned much recognition for his work designing and creating specialty rubber compounds for offshore marine and mining divisions.
On September 25, 2004, David died from a massive heart attack at age 48. Unwavering in his belief to help others, his giving nature was expressed by his donation of his corneas and tissue, which have helped more than 100 people in need. David became a donor at the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado.
On New Year's Day, David and his legacy of helping so many people in medical need will be recognized at the 2013 Parade of Roses in Pasadena, where his floragraph image, along with those of 71 other organ, eye and tissue donors, will be part of the Donate Life Rose Parade Float.
Floragraphs are artistic portraits created by using spices, seeds and other organic materials to cover a digitized photograph of the individual. The final image is realistic, recognizable and a fitting memorial to donors everywhere.
David Fox has been described as "trustworthy" and "loyal." He met his wife, Liz, in college. As a chemical engineer his work included sonar and fiber optic research, and developing cables for the U.S. government. He was honored with many awards during his work. He considered his fellow workers part of his family.
"My prayer for his recipients is for them to know that his eyes saw much beauty and his strong, loving arms shared an incredible touch," Liz said. "I know that he lives on in others and I know that his gift is immeasurable."
Thanks to organ donors, more than 28,000 lives are saved each year in the U.S. through their selfless gifts, giving hope to more than 110,000 awaiting a life-saving organ transplant. In addition, every year hundreds of thousands of people in need of donated corneas and tissue to prevent or cure blindness, heal burns or save limbs receive them from tissue donors like David Fox.
Liz Fox and ARORA Executive Director Boyd Ward will travel to Pasadena for the parade.
Coordinated by Donate Life America member One Legacy, the Donate Life Rose Parade float is supported by 60 official partners from across the nation, including organ and tissue recovery organizations, tissue banks, state donor registries, transplant centers and affiliated organizations.
The 124th Rose Parade theme is "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and will take place Tuesday, January 1st at 10:00 a.m. The parade features majestic floral floats, high-stepping equestrian units and spirited marching bands showcasing the best in entertainment.
